The Move to Enkhuizen
It is with mixed emotions that we are leaving Graafship in Dordrecht moving the boat to our own shipyard in Enkhuizen for the final phase of the build (the interior, the rig, and minor systems).
Graafship is very experienced building high quality classic hulls in steel and for the type of self managed project like Wolfhound the Graafship team has a good set-up and support. We will always be grateful for all the excellent work that was done by Graafship and by all the suppliers and contractors around Dordrecht. After 3 1/2 years it feels a like home.
At the same time it is very exciting to finish this intermediate milestone and to move the project to a less expensive area where there are many more resources available for the kind of work that is left. The most rewarding part of the move was to finally be able to see the hull lines from a distance at different angles. It is more slender, graceful, and elegant seen from a distance than ever imagined. The trip on the canals through the Dutch landscape was extremely pleasant and the satisfaction and gratitude of having accomplished this major milestone is enormous.
Enkhuizen is a sailors town and there is a whole fleet of classic Dutch sailing barges that adorns the harbor and the sea in front of our new facilities. We can se large gaff rigged classic schooners sailing by when the doors to the new construction hall are open. What better inspiration for the final phase?
The pictures below are a selection of some of the best shots from the move in chronologic order. The move out of the Graafship hall and the 5 km long transport (!) on a trailer through the outskirts of Dordrecht to the ZHD dock was the most difficult part of the move. The rest was a breeze.
